DCC decoder to fit Roco OBB series 93/JZ series 53

Odgovor Napisal/-a andersley »

I just opened my 53 and found that the standard decoders I use will not fit in the small space available!

Has anyone fitted a decoder or maybe sound to a Roco 93/53? I have seen how to fit into a Lilliput version, but not the Roco one. It may be a good idea to fit sound anway, rather than try to alter it later.

Any advice on a decoder chip would be appreciated.

The easiest and cheapest solution would be to cheat a bit. You take a wagon,
put a dekoder with speaker inside it and always carry it around with steam
loko. Of course, these two must be wired together...

At ETS is available 334-52423 ESU LA LoksoundV3.5-Dekoder für Dampflok Br.93 Motorola/DCC 109.99.
Check it out here.
If they're selling it, it must fit inside somehow...

The decoder is very expensive - as much as the locomotive! Also with the current exchange rate between the UK pound and the Euro, it is more expensive than previously.

The bunker is full width on the JZ 53 so that would give more space for a speaker than in the narrow bunker on the 93, so that would help.

I managed to fit in a standard decoder tremporarily, by removing the cab 'floor' and a section of metal weight. I trimmed off the ends of the heat shrink cover on the decoder and it is just short enough to fit tightly inside the cab rear.

A more suitable one will be fitted later, also the bunker altered to resemble the JZ version series 53.
