SZ 541 headlights

Odgovor Napisal/-a andersley »

The headlights on my 541 are not very bright and I am sure I have seen a conversion of fitting a brighter LED, but cannot find it on here. Can anyone suggest a suitable LED and method, please?

Hvala

I would say change the resistor in front of led.
It should be brighter...
Oh, yes... DC or DCC? In case of DCC, you can set brightness
of LEDs with a different setting in one of CVs (must look in manual).

Changing the resistor in front of LED may be dangerous option and it will lead to dead LED
If you have DCC and brightnes is an configurable trough decoder look at there. In other case you have to change LED's with brighter ones.

Ah! Thanks for the tips. I use DCC so I will investigate the brightness settings, if available, otherwise chang to a high brightness LED.

Minimum resistor for LED's is 470 Ohms, but suggested little bigger 680 Ohms,1/4 Watt.
Where is the LED,I don't know?
If is some plastic glass between maybe removing give better results....

Solution!!!
I suggest the installation of ESU LokPilot decoders DCC Art.Nr. 52611 http://www.esu.eu/produkte/lokpilot/lokpilot-v30-dcc/
Or Multi-Protocol Decoder Art.Nr. 52610 http://www.esu.eu/produkte/lokpilot/lokpilot-v30/
541, and ESU electronics are compatible.

Alan one question. Does Your LEDs do light somewhat bluish also? As far as I have tested my 541, it's the bluish light that bothers me. On ordinary DC the brightness seems okay.

Goran, yes the lights do have a blue tinge, but it the lack of brightness which is what I really want to change. I do have some super white LED's I think, so could try those.

I have not done anything yet, as I am concentrating work on the layout first. Still making catenary!

In the manual for Roco decoder 10745 (looks exactly the same as
ESU LokPilot 3) is a CV table:
CV 113 - Dimming for front light 00 - 15 (15=max brightness)
CV 114 - Dimming for back light 00 - 15 (15=max brightness)
