Gorchi napisal/-a:Alan, You do not need to put more than 2-3 wires back to the loco. Therefore You can use some small connector which can be hidden either in tender, either in the loco. Now which connector to choose, that is different story. Usually the connectors have distance between pins approx 2,5mm while some time ago I have found a web site on eBay that sells connectors with 1,25mm spacing. Unfortunatelly the link has been erased but hopefully someone could provide us a web site selling such connectors.
Also a good idea was used by Rivarossi but they use 9 pin (!!) connector between loco and tender, also with such small space between pins.
Edit: here it is:

Hi!
There are more than 3 wires...
1st situation - decoder in tender:
- 2 wires - front lights
- 2 wires - steam generator
- 2 wires - track pickup (could be left out)
2nd situation - decoder in locomotive:
- 2 wires - motor
- 2 wires - back lights
- 2 wires - track pickup (could be left out)
There is a 2 wire connector allready, so i would be adding a 4 wire connector, right?
This is how i see it (I could be wrong).
Regarding "Pin Strips and Sockets", if i'm not mistaken i just bought such a thing in HTE (they are in LJ and MB), cheap. For really small connectors you should check spare parts for GSMs - connector for motor for vibrator in GSM. If you wish i can take a picture of one i have - but its a 2 pin connector.
Best regards,
